Meet Phaedra!

 NaBloPoMo Day Four

This is Phaedra, my newest Grand-doggie.

She is a five-month-old Great-danoodle we bought for Eler Beth to be trained as her ESA and mobility service dog. Her mother is an AKC registered Great Dane, and her father is an AKC registered Standard Poodle.

Phaedra was about 10 weeks old when we got her, and it has been fun seeing her grow exponentially each week. The breeder breeds Danes specifically for use as service animals, and this was her first litter of Danoodle-mixes. Phaedra is VERY smart and is already attentive to Eler Beth's needs. She has made a good start on her training.

Bryant is still healthy and doing well, but he IS getting older and slowing down, and we wanted to get a puppy in there to be trained while he is still around. I'll try to share more pictures later.

Here she is again with Bryant, just a wee bit in his personal space, but he doesn't seem to mind.

And here she is with sister, Molly. She loves both her big brother AND her little big sister. Molly plays with Phaedra a lot, which is really something. Molly is 7 and doesn't often play, but she actually initiates play with Phaedra. It has been good for her to have a puppy in the house.

  1. I had never heard of that dog mix. My friend has a Goldendoodle and she is amazing. Smart and very loving.

    1. Goldendoodles are great dogs and make great service dogs too. I had never realized that Greatdanoodles were a thing, either, until my daughter told me. She wanted a dog big enough that she could lean on when needed, with less allergy-causing dandruff (the poodle would contribute that) and smart with a personality suited to an emotional service dog. Apparently, they've been bred for such for quite a while, but I never knew it.
